EMMANUEL PERROTIN CROSSES OVER WELL

Affixed on Manhattan’s Upper East Side for years now, Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin is heading downtown. Perrotin will open in 2017 at 130 Orchard Street, on the more earthy Lower East Side, in a space eight times as large as its present digs. Parisian art dealer Emmanuel Perrotin has announced he will be opening up the next Galerie Perrotin in the heart of Tokyo’s Roppongi district next spring, marking the gallery’s third location in Asia. The Art Newspaper reports the new 130 square meter space is being designed by Hong Kong architect André Fu, who has previously worked with the likes of Louis Vuitton, the Four Seasons, COS, The Upper House, not to mention Perrotin’s Hong Kong location.

TA BY ABLOH

Ta’East is a uniquely gifted rapper, whose spectral hip-hop arrives like tropical rain after a lingering drought. Get to know Virgil Abloh’s new obsession. You wouldn’t guess it from the creeping strings and seething lyrics of his breakthrough track “WithTheShit”, but LA-based rapper Ta’East is feeling positive: or, at least, a little less frustrated. After all, though the 29-year-old is currently enjoying unprecedented levels of industry hype and top tier co-signs, this well-deserved recognition has been a long time in the making.

HOW METRO BOOMIN BECAME THE MOST TRUSTED MAN IN RAP

By 13, he had a keyboard and the production software Fruity Loops. With a hunger and a willingness to sacrifice, he promised himself that there would be no “normal high school kid life—fucking around and going to parties and just chilling and shit.” Countless, obsessive hours of trial and error followed; days and nights were spent hacking away. “It was so foreign to me,” he says. “I was trying to Google like, ‘How do you get a bass sound?’” Until a fortuitous high school piano class, he didn’t even know what a chord was.

FRANK DUKES IS LOW KEY PRODUCING EVERYONE RIGHT NOW

Adam Feeney sounds relaxed, even as he admits he’s a bit nervous about his recent ascension onto the A-list of rap producers. “I’ve been doing music for a long time, and so to be in this spot, I feel like I just can’t fuck it up,” the 32-year-old best known as Frank Dukes says with a laugh, while taking a break from a session at his Toronto studio.

Manipulating his own compositions like they were somebody else’s is a technique that has brought Feeney—an avowed crate-digger turned self-taught multi-instrumentalist—from relative obscurity to a go-to producer for the industry’s elite. “I’m still using that traditional approach, but trying to create music that’s completely forward-thinking and pushing some sort of boundary,” he says.

RITA O

Two years into their collaborative relationship, Adidas Originals and Rita Ora are back at it again with another excellent and innovative collection for FW16. Inspired by Ora, the so-called “queen of color, chaos and attitude,” the collection features a range of pieces which utilize mesmerizing lines and camouflaged patterns to create an almost “painting-by-numbers” aesthetic. There’s a kaleidoscope of garish colors that are bright and colorful yet won’t look out of place when the cold, dark days start to arrive.  “It’s all about the material and color,” says Ora who also reinterpreted classic shoe silhouettes such as the Superstar and recent favorite, the Tubular Defiant.
