WILLIAMS, ARSHAM AND BOKAER TEAM UP FOR THE GUGGENHEIM
It’s a Saturday in late winter, and Bokaer, a celebrated modern dancer and choreographer, is seated at a nondescript table in an airy workspace in Long Island City, Queens. This was once a gallery home for dealer Jeffrey Deitch—artist Matthew Barney apparently does Matthew Barney things next door—and now it’s the studio of visual artist and scenic designer Daniel Arsham, Bokaer’s friend and frequent collaborator. Late-afternoon sun pours through a string of skylights. A small documentary crew huddles over a shot. And at another table, taking a break and eating a quick fast-food lunch, sits Bokaer’s and Arsham’s co-conspirator: Pharrell Williams.
A crucial element of the project is its sweeping score, composed by Williams and arranged for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra by David Campbell, who has worked with Adele and St. Vincent, among many others. The final pieces of the score arrived overnight in Bokaer’s in-box close to 2:30 a.m. Today, Williams, Arsham and Bokaer are listening to the most recent arrangements for the first time, which explains the doc crew and the palpable ripples of anticipation in the room.

As one of the ten young artists tapped by Adidas Originals this year, Lucia Santina Ribisi helped unveil a collective body of work titled ‘Future Capsule‘ at the New Museum in New York City. The artists assisted in building theFuture Capsule concept by offering their personal interpretation of what a better future could look like for the world through their artistic lens. The Future Capsule art installation played host to media, consumers and local tastemakers – an event that conceptually displayed different art forms including photography, painting, digital art and soundscapes.
The 18-year-old Ribisi also gets high praise from Hedi Slimane on their collaboration and whose Spring 2016 Saint Laurent men’s collection has left fans talking for months.
Yung Jake wants to text. This is how he wants to be interviewed for his Complex feature. He won’t talk in person, over the phone, on Skype, or even via IM. He’ll text. That’s it. But Yung Jake – who’s already performed at L.A.’s Museum of Contemporary Art, the Sundance Institute’s New Frontiers program, and South by Southwest – isn’t most artists. Or people. Or artist personas of real people. Because Jake the artist, who is the persona of a real person, refuses to have any of these things viewed separately from one another.
